Objectives of the Programme:

The aim of the educational program is to prepare graduates with a focus on both theoretical and practical knowledge. Graduates will acquire a range of professional skills meeting modern requirements. They will know the content and purpose of various biological disciplines, get acquainted with relevant research methodologies and experimental methods, have basic knowledge of the principles and problems of applied biology, biotechnology and biomedicine, as well as understand professional values (objectivity, organization, accuracy, punctuality, transparency, etc.)

Career Options:

The program aims to prepare specialists for local and foreign labor markets. Graduates of the Bachelor’s program in biology have wide employment perspectives, namely:

  • in relevant scientific research institutions and scientific enterprise;
  • in environmental protection and natural resources management organizations;
  • in natural reserves and other protected areas, including botanical gardens;
  • on large and small farms;
  • as biology teachers in public schools;
  • in clinical diagnostics laboratories and companies;
  • in sanitary security services;
  • in Health Care;
  • in pharmacological and pharmaceutical industry;
  • in biological agriculture.

Learning Outcomes:

After completion of the program, graduates will know the essence of various biological disciplines, their distinct methodological approaches and experimental research methods, as well as the problems and approaches of applied sciences such as biomedicine and biotechnology. They will study the life processes in animal and plant; will know the main characteristics of non-cellular life forms, as well as of prokaryotic and eukaryotic model organisms and the basic principles of working with them; understand the particular role and importance of model organisms for the advancement of different biological fields; they will know the functions of biological macromolecules and their bioinformatical analyses, understand the molecular basis of cellular organization, metabolism, differentiation and development, peculiarities of the anatomy and physiology of higher organisms, mechanisms regulating growth, morphogenesis and behavior, as well as principles of genetic variability and evolution.

In addition, they will get acquainted with the actual problems of biomedicine including infectious disease, antimicrobial resistance, ageing, cancer and human genetic diseases and will be introduced to modern approaches to their solution. Acquired knowledge will enable the graduates to engage in different academic and applied fields of biological science and to select appropriate experimental strategies of research depending on the problem and the specific object of study. Besides, the graduate will be capable of testing and establishing new methods and technological platforms.

After completing the Bachelor's Degree in Biology, graduates will own general and specific competencies listed below:
