Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the program is

  1. To provide the student with the basic classical higher education in accordance with the principles of liberal arts, promote the development of harmonious personality and support student’s ambition to broaden her/his outlook,
  2. To prepare the student mentally and to promote her/his skills for rapidly changing public and economic circumstances, and labor market, as well for the professional competent activity individually and in team,
  3. To develop the student’s basic skills and knowledge necessary for academic research in classical philology, mediaeval studies, visual and performing arts, and prepare her/him for the next academic level, namely for the academic research for MA degree.

Career Options:

Bachelor of Liberal Arts can be employed in the fields of journalism, advertising, PR, design, TV and filming, can work in the government as well as in non-government sectors, and can perform the executive, consulting and creative-managerial functions.


Learning Outcomes: 

After completion of the program graduates will know the essence of different academic fields of biological science, their methodological approaches and methods of experimental research, as well as biomedicine and biotechnology - modern problems and approaches; they will study the life processes of animals and plants; will know the basic characteristics of cell-free forms of life, as well as of prokaryotic and eukaryotic modal organisms, the specific purpose and importance of their development in separate biological fields and the basic principles of working with them; they will know the functions of biological macromolecules and bioinformatics analysis of their structure, the molecular basis of cell structure, metabolism, division and differentiation, peculiarities of the anatomy and physiology of organisms, their growth, development, behavioural and evolutional mechanisms.

In addition, they will get acquainted with key issues of biomedicine such as an increasing resistance to pathogenic microbes, metabolic disorders and genetic diseases in human and modern approaches to their solutions such as phage therapy, genetic diagnosis and gene therapy. Acquired knowledge will enable the graduates to engage in research in different academic and applied fields of biology and plan an adequate experimental strategy in the context of the study competences. Besides, they will have general knowledge regarding the tools and technologies used in different fields, so that based on the specific problem, they will be able to test the selection methodology and technological platforms, as well as introduce new biological technologies.


 After completion of Bachelor Program, graduates will deploy general and specific competencies listed below:

General Competences:

Graduates will be able to: 

  • apply critical thinking, reasoning and debate;
  • professionally write and communicate in native language;
  • write and communicate scientific material in foreign languages (English) ;
  • adapt and act in unfamiliar and changing environments;

  • continuously learn and deepen the knowledge;
  • use modern information and communication technologies;
  • process scientific literature, publicly discuss the findings in accordance with professional standards;
  • work using complex equipment.  

 

Specific Competences:

The graduates will:

  • understand the nature of liberal education in historical and classical light (artes liberales παιδεία ἐλευθερία) as well as in the contemporary context, is aware of its areas – liberal arts (complete humanitarian education [philology, languages, visual and performing arts, mediaeval studies, academic research in the areas of humanities and philology] and geometric [theoretical and applied] disciplines), their capacity, limitations and challenges;
  • be familiar with the artistic as well as academic milieu of the traditional arts and humanities as well as mediaeval studies, philology and humanities respectively;
  • know and will be able to apply universal research methods in humanities, philology and medieval studies;
  • be able to apply the visual and performing arts as well as verbal abilities for the creative as well as business and professional objectives, in a team as well as individually;
  • have formed criteria for evaluation of arts and literary works;
  • possess proper terminology and nomenclature, as well as creative trends and academic concepts, theories and hypotheses;
  • be able to apply theoretical knowledge in practice as well as to generalize and theorize;
  • deepen and widen acquired knowledge and skills as well as afterwards acquire within the scope of the field the qualitatively new knowledge and skills and develop them independently.
