Dr. Anna Kumsishvili and her patient Rita.

25 September 2025

Head of the Veterinarium Therapy Department, Dr. Anna Kumsishvili, and her patient Rita.

At the Veterinarium Clinical Laboratory, Rita underwent a complete blood count (with morphology), where the Head of Laboratory, Dr. Eka Gvaladze, detected the presence of the Babesia pathogen. A subsequent PCR study confirmed the diagnosis with certainty.

PCR diagnostics at Veterinarium are performed using the Vcheck M10 analyzer by the South Korean company Bionote. This real-time PCR device is designed specifically for veterinary diagnostics and provides highly accurate results in about 1.5 hours.

Rita also underwent an SDMA test, a modern biomarker used to evaluate kidney function. Since babesiosis carries a high risk of kidney damage, SDMA testing allows veterinarians to detect potential changes at an early stage and plan the treatment strategy more precisely.

Anna developed the appropriate treatment protocol. Rita’s condition has already improved.  and we are optimistic about her full recovery.
