First Georgian Veterinary Surgery Article Published in International Journal

30 April 2026

The 1st article from Georgia in the field of veterinary surgery has been published in an international scientific journal.

An article by Veterinarium’s Head Veterinarian, Dr. Lasha-Giorgi Japaridze, on the laparoscopic sterilization of a raccoon named Tsatsuna has been published in a peer-reviewed international scientific journal.

The article is dedicated to Tsatsuna and to the memory of Ms. Inga Kavelashvili, who cared for and protected dozens of animals: “In memory of Inga Kavelashvili† (Lagodekhi, Georgia)”

We had promised her that we would publish an article in an international journal, and we have fulfilled that promise.

The number of veterinary publications from Georgia in English-language international scientific journals remains very limited. For this reason, we believe that the Soviet period caused significant harm to Georgian veterinary medicine, hindering its connection with real international knowledge and creating the misconception that veterinary medicine was highly developed at that time.

The article has been published in Clinical Case Reports, a peer-reviewed journal published by one of the world’s leading academic publishers, John Wiley & Sons (Wiley).

Wiley is one of the oldest and most respected academic publishers globally. It publishes scientific journals, academic books, and encyclopedias across a wide range of disciplines. Founded in 1807 in the United States, it is known for its high scientific standards, rigorous peer-review process, and a diverse portfolio of high-impact publications in medicine, veterinary science, biology, and beyond.

The Wiley Open Access platform ensures that contemporary research is freely accessible to the global scientific community, significantly supporting the dissemination of knowledge and its application in practice.

The publication fee for the article was covered by the Kakha Bendukidze Knowledge Fund.
