2-year-old mixed-breed dog Laima

2-year-old mixed-breed dog Laima was adopted by a family in Germany and is now living happily there.

A few months ago, Laima was brought to Veterinarium with a foreign body in the thoracic cavity - a bamboo skewer measuring approximately 15 cm in length. A computed tomography scan performed at Vet CT, located on the Kakha Bendukidze Campus, revealed that the foreign body was lodged adjacent to the left lung lobes, extending between the 2nd and 11th ribs.

Veterinarium’s Head Veterinarian, Dr. Lasha-Giorgi Japaridze, removed the skewer thoracoscopically. Thoracoscopy is a modern, minimally invasive surgical technique that allows procedures to be performed through small incisions, reducing surgical trauma and postoperative pain while promoting a faster recovery.

The skewer was successfully extracted through two 5 mm thoracoscopic ports.

Anaesthesia was managed by Natia Robakidze, with Mari Kapanadze assisting the surgeon.

Laima has since settled into her new life in Germany.
