Surgical procedure—open fracture reduction using a locking titanium supracondylar plate

20 January 2025

This is the bright little Snowflake who recovered and attended the first meeting with the new members of our clinic team,

At the Veterinarium Clinic of the Agricultural University of Georgia, a dog named Milky was diagnosed with a femoral supracondylar fracture classified as Salter-Harris type V.

Milky underwent a complex surgical procedure—open fracture reduction using a locking titanium supracondylar plate—which provides optimal support for bone healing in companion animals. The surgery was performed by the clinic’s Chief Veterinarian and Head of the Surgery Department, Dr. Lasha-Giorgi Japaridze, who has extensive experience in managing complex orthopedic traumas. He was assisted by the clinic’s veterinarian, Barbare Kurtsikidze.

Anesthesiologist Natia Robakidze oversaw the anesthesia process, a critically important stage of any surgical procedure, ensuring Milky’s safety and comfort throughout the operation.

The post includes pre- and postoperative radiographic images that clearly demonstrate the progress achieved following the surgical intervention.

Milky’s rehabilitation went smoothly: on January 8, Milky attended a meeting with new members of the Veterinarium team and underwent plate removal surgery, marking the end of the recovery process.
