The history of Boa, the Pomeranian Spitz
21 November 2025
Meet Boa, a Pomeranian Spitz.
The patient had a foreign body approximately 12 cm in length in the small intestine, a fragment of a toy and a piece of fabric with a metal zipper. Due to the prolonged retention of the foreign material, about 4 days, Boa was showing signs of intestinal obstruction and a general decline in clinical condition.
At Veterinarium, the following invasive and diagnostic procedures were performed:
- Enterotomy and removal of the foreign body from the small intestine
- Gastroscopy, which revealed small gastric mucosal ulcers and gastritis caused by prolonged retention and localized inflammation
The procedures were performed by Lasha-Giorgi Japaridze, Head of the Surgical Department at Veterinarium, and anesthesia was managed by Natia Robakidze.
These procedures at Veterinarium are conducted using the veterinary endoscopic system, Mindray Vetina ES3. For anesthesia, the Mindray Veta 5 Premium veterinary anesthesia machine is used, allowing precise patient monitoring, controlled inhalational anesthesia and proper ventilation using a controlled breathing system.
Boa is currently doing well. and continues treatment for gastric ulcers and gastritis according to the therapeutic plan developed by Veterinarium’s internist, Barbare Kurtsikidze.
