The story of Bubi the Spitz

02 December 2025

This is Bubi, a 3.5 year old Spitz.

Bubi was brought to Veterinarium for an elective castration. In accordance with protocol, he underwent a comprehensive preanesthetic evaluation that included:

  • Complete blood count with morphology
  • Biochemical profile
  • Electrolyte analysis
  • Cardiac ultrasound examination

Cardiac ultrasonography revealed left atrial dilation and congestive changes within the pulmonary circulation.
The clinic’s anesthesiologist and internist, Natia Robakidze, additionally performed a thoracic radiographic examination to assess the condition of the lungs.

Thoracic radiographs showed cardiomegaly and a markedly increased pulmonary vascular pattern.
According to the owner, although Bubi is an active and athletic dog, recently he had been experiencing coughing, especially during physical exertion, as well as rapid fatigue during activity.

Natia Robakidze initiated appropriate cardiology treatment. Follow up diagnostic evaluations performed 3 weeks later demonstrated both clinical and functional improvement. After Bubi’s condition stabilized, the surgical procedure was performed by Lasha-Giorgi Japaridze, the head of the clinic’s Surgical Department.

The doctor scheduled another follow up visit approximately 3 months later to continue monitoring his condition. At that time, the patient again showed improvement, and clinical signs were reduced.
Bubi will continue to undergo regular monitoring at Veterinarium every 6 months to allow ongoing assessment of his cardiac status and adjustment of therapy if needed.

A complete patient evaluation before any surgical intervention is extremely important, as many diseases in animals develop gradually and may remain unnoticed by owners in the early stages.
