The Story of Queen, a 10-Year-Old Scottish Fold Mix Cat

17 May 2025

A 10-year-old cat named Queen, a Scottish Fold mix, was brought to the Veterinarium Clinic with the following clinical signs: rash across the body and around the eyes, intense itching, respiratory distress, vomiting, and diarrhea.

The diagnostic and therapeutic process was managed by Dr. Ana Kumsishvili, Chief Veterinarian and Head of the Theraphy Department at the Veterinarium. Due to the complexity and diversity of the presenting symptoms, a comprehensive diagnostic approach was undertaken.

The patient underwent the following diagnostic procedures:

  • Abdominal ultrasonography
  • Radiographic examination
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Blood biochemistry profile
  • Blood electrolyte analysis
  • Clinical dermatological examination, including skin and coat evaluation

Based on preliminary diagnostic findings, feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) was suspected. A diagnostic test specific for FIP was performed, yielding a positive result.

The final diagnosis was ocular FIP, a non-classical but clinically significant manifestation of the disease, often associated with ocular inflammation, visual impairment, and damage to intraocular structures.

Dr. Kumsishvili developed a treatment plan, which included targeted antiviral therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and supportive care. The treatment course lasted approximately four months, after which the patient made a full clinical recovery.
