Laboratory of Nematode Studies

The main purpose of the Laboratory of Nematode Studies is to study human and animal parasites, including carriers of vector diseases, reservoirs, and the vectors themselves. The laboratory is engaged in several international projects and collaborates with both Georgian and foreign scientific institutions. Bachelors and masters in the laboratory learn methods for detecting and identifying important nematodes, arachnids, and insects. They actively participate in laboratory activities, including monitoring and expeditions focused on disease-carrying ticks.

Research conducted in the laboratory includes:

• Isolation and identification of nematodes
• Identification of ticks (adult, nymph, and larval stages)
• Identification of mosquitoes
• Identification of Culicoides
• Conservation of patterns of disease vectors
• Mapping the distribution of ticks, mosquitoes, and Culicoides
