Abasha Base

The Abasha Base of the Agricultural University of Georgia is located in the village of Marani, 270 km from Tbilisi. The farm spans 120 hectares and serves both commercial and educational-scientific purposes. The base is organized as a single plot of land, divided into 12 equal sections by windbreak strips. The entire area is fenced, with deep circular collectors installed along the perimeter. The base features a collection of nuts and feijoa. The nut collection, located on 2 hectares, includes approximately 100 Georgian and introduced varieties and forms. The feijoa collection, covering 1 hectare, comprises up to 5 varieties.

At the Abasha Base, hazelnut production is conducted on 24 hectares, primarily focusing on Georgian varieties for commercial purposes. The base also operates a hazelnut seedling nursery, equipped with a modern drip irrigation system. The nursery includes a 1-hectare nursery garden for planting and a 2-hectare area dedicated to rooting cuttings. The nursery has an annual capacity of producing 50,000 seedlings.

The Abasha Base produces soybeans and corn for food, fodder, and seed purposes: soybeans - Variety "Kolkhida 4" is cultivated on 7 hectares and corn - Variety "Abasha Yellow" is grown on 30 hectares. Additionally, the experimental farm features a pecan plantation covering 5 hectares and an eucalyptus plantation spanning 3 hectares.
