Successful Endoscopic Removal of a Gastric Foreign Body
23 March 2026
Mili, a Biewer Yorkshire Terrier, was presented to Veterinarium with a one-day history of hemorrhagic vomiting and diarrhea.
An abdominal ultrasonographic examination was performed by the clinic’s ultrasonographer, Nutsa Besashvili, which revealed the presence of a gastric foreign body.
This finding was subsequently confirmed by radiographic imaging.
Given Mili’s clinical condition, gastroscopy was indicated. As the procedure requires general anesthesia, pre-anesthetic evaluation was performed.
Based on the results, gastroscopy was carried out by the clinic’s Head Veterinarian, Lasha-Giorgi Japaridze, and the foreign body was successfully removed endoscopically.
Following the procedure, oral cavity sanitation and dental extractions were performed by Barbare Kurtcikidze.
Anesthesia was successfully managed by Natia Robakidze.
Mili is currently stable and undergoing medical management under the care of her attending veterinarian, Nino Kushitashvili.
At Veterinarium, gastroscopy is performed using a modern flexible veterinary endoscopic system (Vetina ES3). Anesthesia is delivered using the Veta 5 Premium system, ensuring comprehensive patient monitoring, safe inhalational anesthesia, and effective ventilatory support via a controlled ventilation system.
Mili is the mother of Tsitsi, the dog of our anesthesiologist. Many of you have already met Tsitsi at the clinic.
