მანამდე თორნიკემ დაამთავრა Friedrich Schiller University Jena-ს სამაგისტრო პროგრამა Molecular Life Sciences. მისი სამაგისტრო ნაშრომის თეზისი იყო "Analysis of Growth and Androgen Receptor Ligand-induced Cellular Senescence in Prostate Cancer Cells Co-treated with Different Pro-Survival Inhibitors".
